The Hoover Fire Department is in the process of converting our current inventory of self-contained breathing apparatus to a model that meets and exceed the new NIOSH and NFPA Standards. The new breathing apparatus are designed with the utmost features for the sole safety of the firefighter. Due to the inherent dangers of firefighting and working in toxic environments, regulatory agencies and researchers work diligently to ensure firefighters across the nation are equipped with the safest and most reliable equipment. In turn, this allows our personnel to operate effectively on the fire ground for our priority of saving lives and protecting property. All personnel will be fully trained and certified to wear and operate the new self-contained breathing apparatus. Firefighters are shown being certified this past week and the training will continue through the first week in September.
