Alabama Baseball Heads to Hoover for Weekend Scrimmages and Community Events
The Crimson Tide will host open scrimmages at the Met each weekend leading up to the regular season

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama baseball team will head to Hoover for scrimmages each of the next three weekends as the team prepares for the start of its 2015 season on Feb. 13. Scrimmages at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium will take place each Friday (4 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.) and are open to the public.

For the Crimson Tide’s first weekend in Hoover (Jan. 23-25), the team will head out into the community and cement themselves in the city of Hoover. On Friday, players will partner with the Diamond Dolls to distribute posters and schedule cards to local business and community members at Five Points South from 1:15-2:30. Immediately following that until 3 p.m., head coach Mitch Gaspard and the team will take part in a media day inside the Met to officially kick off UA’s season away from Tuscaloosa. On Saturday, the team will personally deliver season ticket packages to Alabama fans in the Birmingham and Hoover area.

On the weekend of Jan. 30-Feb. 1, Georgie Salem, Mikey White and Jake Hubbard will each visit their former elementary school in the Birmingham area to speak with the students about Crimson Tide baseball. Prior to Saturday’s scrimmage, Alabama baseball will be hosting auditions for national anthem performers from 10 a.m. until Noon. Those interested in auditioning are encouraged to visit http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/national-anthem.html.

Also on Saturday, eight select UA players will travel to the Oak Mountain Youth Baseball tryouts at Heardmont Park from Noon until 1 p.m. to meet with the kids and sign autographs. Crimson Tide fans are also encouraged to come to the Met to select their seat. Supporters will be able to see which locations are still available for season-ticket packages and may purchase their tickets at the Met’s offices located just outside the main gates.

In the final tune-up before the regular season, Alabama will scrimmage at the Met from Feb. 6-8. On Saturday, Feb. 7, the team will kick off the day with a morning youth clinic from 10-11 a.m. CT. Those interested are encouraged to visit http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/youth-clinic.html for more information.

Following Sunday’s clinic, fans are encouraged to join the Alabama Grandslammers for their annual preseason barbeque that will precede the day’s 1 p.m. scrimmage. Those in attendance on Saturday are welcome to purchase tickets as the offices will be open the entire day for single-game, mini-plan and season-long ticket purchases.

All of the festivities will lead into Alabama baseball’s season-opener on Friday, Feb. 13, when the Crimson Tide hosts the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore for a weekend series. The Tide will play 30-plus home games at the Met this season, while also visiting Montgomery, Mobile and Huntsville, acting as the home team on those trips.

Fans are encouraged to visit http://www.rolltide.com/tickets/m-basebl.html to purchase tickets for any or all of the Crimson Tide’s home games this season. Supporters can also claim tickets on any of the aforementioned days at the Met.

Media wishing to attend media day or any of the scrimmages should contact Alex Thompson through the Alabama Athletics Communications office at (205) 348-6084 or via e-mail at athompson@ia.ua.edu.
